Neil
Cook has been coaching and teaching swimming since 1958. He has over 37
years of experience as an endurance athlete. He has coached beginners
through Team USA and Kona qualifiers. Contrary to local rumor, he was not
around when running was invented!
Our
Tuesday Morning Speed Crew workouts have produced some impressive
results. And our Thursday Night Strength Run workouts complement each
other. These workouts are among the most valuable workouts for both
runners and triathletes. They build strength and speed, and help prevent
injuries. We use a unique combination of warm-up and warm-down drills
designed to improve range of motion, prepare your body for top level
performance and prevent injuries. They continue throughout year.

We are one of the only
coaches in the Metro NYC area using underwater video analysis for swimmers (we
also do running video analysis, just not underwater!). We use the GoPro Hero3 Black digital camera,
capable of 200 frames per second and High Definition up to 1,980 x 1,440. This
is the best technology currently available and far exceeds anything else on the
market. We've been doing underwater video analysis since 2001.

We use proven
scientifically based coaching techniques - biomechanics, kinesiology, exercise physiology,
neurophysiology and neuropsychology based coaching. We are athlete focused,
extremely supportive and communicative with our athletes.
Training plans can be
found in magazines and books, it's adapting any plan to the individual
athlete's current fitness status, lifestyle and changes as the season goes on
that defines an outstanding coach and an outstanding season.
Adults need objective and
knowledgeable support, a coach that is a deep source of knowledge and
experience (coaching as well as competing) and an unquestionable source of support
for them. It's all about the
athlete! Motivation must come from the
athlete, the coach should keep you focused and keep your priorities constantly
in mind.

coaching for adult endurance athletes – runners, triathletes, swimmers and
cyclists. We work with all levels of
athletes, from first timers to elite level athletes. We have the experience and background to help
you attain your goals.
Do you think anyone ever went to be coached by John Wooden, Bear
Bryant, Doc Councilman, Vince Lombardi or Arthur Lydiard because those five
were good athletes? Or because they were great coaches? What I did as an
athlete did not make me the coach I am today. Picking a coach because (s)he
raced fast is just plain missing the point.
A coach
provides an objective resource to his athletes.
We provide regular feedback and guidance. Our knowledge and experience are invaluable
resources – from selecting a challenging and attainable goal and designing an
appropriate training program to race selection, injury prevention, support and
advice.
A well-designed
training program will help prevent injuries, manage volume, quality, intensity
and variety to balance your family, job and social life with your
training. Your coach is your trusted
adviser – helping you select races, providing encouragement, support and regular
feedback.
We provide
skill development as part of our coaching programs. We also provide each athlete with extensive
training information appropriate to his or her goals, skill and fitness levels
and experience.
We have
successfully coached many athletes at all levels. Our athletes have not only reached their
goals, but also have won numerous awards and set Personal Records. In addition, they have had fun!
We have an
extensive educational background in Physical Education, Coaching, Motor
Learning and Neurophysiology, as well as many years’ experience as an athlete
and coach. We first began coaching
swimmers in 1965.

Analysis
We do both swimming and running video
analysis. We use the latest digital High Definition underwater video
equipment with instant analysis on our laptop computer using the most advance
professional video software on the market.
Swimming: We video tape
you swimming using the GoPro Hero3 Black digital camera, capable of 200
frames per second and High Definition up to 1,980 x 1,440. This is the best
technology currently available and far exceeds anything else on the market. We tape
you underwater and above the water. You get a CD of your video as
well as a sample of underwater and above water video of an expert
swimmer. We use professional production quality digital software to
analyze and produce your video. You also receive extensive tips and drills to work
on your technique. We will review the video with you, pointing out areas
you need to improve, suggesting changes and drills to use. We will answer
your questions about your technique during the video review.
