Bike Tune-up Time
Spring is finally here! The days are getting longer, the sun is warmer and the snow is almost completely gone. That all means one thing – time to tune-up your bike. Before you start using the bike frequently, get it tuned. A complete overhaul will keep it rolling along and keep a smile on your face.
The following things need to be check, adjusted, lubed and tightened:
Wheels – true, round
Hubs – tighten, lube
Tires – inspected and replaced if necessary
Tubes – inspected and replaced if necessary
Rim Tape – inspected and replaced if necessary
Chain – cleaned and lubed
Chainrings and Cogs – cleaned
Derailleurs – cleaned and adjusted
Cables – inspected, tightened and lubed
Bottom Bracket – inspect, lube and tighten
Brakes – inspected and adjusted, replace brake pads as necessary
Brake & Shifter Levers – inspect and adjust
Pedals – lubed and adjusted
Seat Post – cleaned & lubed, adjusted and tightened
Handle Bars – adjusted and tightened
Check and tighten all bolts
Frame – touch-up paint, “Frame Saver” steel frames
Shoes & Cleats – inspected, cleaned & lubed (Speedplay)
Helmet – inspect, clean and replace if necessary (you should replace your helmet if you crash & hit your head!)
Cycle Computer – inspect wires and test, calibrate
Wash and clean
